The Questioned Document and Handwriting Examination Laboratory is designed to provide hands-on training for students of forensic science in the field of document examination. This lab serves as a crucial component of the forensic science curriculum, trained students with the knowledge and skills necessary to analyze and compare questioned documents and handwriting samples. The laboratory is equipped all major and minor instrument and techniques required for questioned document examination such as:
Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC)
Microscopes and digital imaging tools
Infrared and UV light sources
Sterio Microscope
Comparison Microscope
Students will learn to apply scientific principles and methods to determine the authenticity, origin, and potential alterations of documents. They will also gain expertise in handwriting analysis, comparing questioned handwriting samples to known samples to identify similarities and differences.
The Questioned Document and Handwriting Examination Laboratory will include a variety of activities and exercises designed to reinforce the theoretical concepts learned in the classroom. These activities may include:
Examination of known and questioned documents using various instruments and techniques.
Comparison of handwriting samples to determine authorship.
Analysis of indented writing.
Detection of alterations, obliterations, and forgeries.
Examination of paper, inks, and printing processes to determine authenticity.
Preparation of comprehensive reports and expert testimony based on laboratory finding.
